Do I still need a Covid test for air travel?
Covid is now classed as an “established and ongoing health issue” and no longer constitutes a global health emergency. Therefore, you are unlikely to need a Covid test for air travel. Nevertheless, you might still opt for testing for your personal peace of mind.
What different types of Covid tests are available?
The two main Covid tests are a PCR test and an antigen test, which we have summarised below:
PCR test
This is a very sensitive test which is generally thought to yield accurate results. It is more expensive than an antigen test and you may need to wait longer to obtain your results.
Antigen test
An antigen test (also called lateral flow test) is usually a lot cheaper than a PCR and results can often be obtained within 15 – 30 minutes. This type of test is less accurate than a PCR.

When and how do I receive my test results?
That will depend on the testing facility and on the type of test you have taken. Some test results can be obtained within 20 to 30 minutes, while others may take a day or two. It is therefore important that you arrange your test in good time before you travel and that you check the turnaround times with your test provider.
