While rules around Covid testing have been relaxed considerably, you may occasionally still need a test for travel, depending on your destination and circumstances. What are the options when flying from Tenerife South Airport?
The Covid testing facility at Tenerife South Airport is now closed. If you require a Covid test for travel, you will have to arrange this elsewhere on the island before you travel.
That depends on the country you are travelling to and on your specific circumstances. It is important that you familiarise yourself with the current entry regulations for your travel destination in good time before you are due to fly, to allow yourself enough time to arrange a test, if needed.
The two main Covid tests that are needed for air travel are a PCR test and an antigen test. The entry regulations for your travel destination will specify which of these tests is required.
This is a very sensitive test which is generally thought to yield accurate results. It is more expensive than an antigen test and you may need to wait longer to obtain your results.
An antigen test (also called lateral flow test) is usually a lot cheaper than a PCR and results can often be obtained within 15 – 30 minutes. This type of test is less accurate than a PCR, which is why it is not accepted by all countries.
If you need a Covid test for travel, you will need to arrange this privately. There are various options across the island. We have listed some for you below.

That will depend on the testing facility and on the type of test you have taken. Some test results can be obtained within 20 to 30 minutes, while others may take a day or two. It is therefore important that you arrange your test in good time before you travel and that you check the turnaround times with your test provider.
You will need to ensure that the test certificate is in a format that is accepted for air travel and that you have taken the test within the specified time-frame before your arrival at your travel destination.
